Better sleep is key

It seems so simple, but sleep deprivation can be an immune system killer and lead to higher levels of stress and anxiety. Studies have shown that people who don’t get enough sleep are more likely to get sick after being exposed to a harmful virus, bacteria, or other opportunistic infection. Beyond that, a lack of quality sleep and increased stress often lead to immune suppression, thus affecting how one recovers from being sick.

Cytokines are key immune response proteins that are activated when the body is under stress or being attacked by opportunistic infections. Getting enough sleep may increase production of these protective proteins, as well as help to regulate their response once activated. Additionally, sleep deprivation has been shown to reduce important infection fighting antibodies, which are key to how well one’s body can control the immune response.

Whole foods are necessary

A great way to increase immune function is to choose healthier, whole foods packed with quality protein sources, good fats, and delicious fruits and vegetables. Increasing the quantity and variety of foods that provide proteins, fats, micronutrients, and antioxidants is crucial and perhaps the most vital thing one can do to bolster the immune system.

Consuming enough nutrients with a healthy, whole foods diet is required for the health and function of one’s cells, including immune cells. The body’s immune response relies on the presence of a variety of micronutrients. They have been identified as critical for growth and function of immune cells such as vitamin C, vitamin D, zinc, selenium, iron, and protein. Diets that are low in these nutrients may require dietary supplementation.

Get that body moving!

Moderate exercise and movement have been shown to have a tremendous impact on immune function. A quick 30 minutes of light to moderate movement like walking, cycling, or swimming a few times a week has been shown to improve health and immune functions. Moving one’s body doesn’t always have to be hard or require a gym.

As the body adapts to the regular exercise, one will find themselves getting stronger, more fit, and even losing a bit of weight. Plus, it has been shown that regular movement leads better sleep patterns and decrease in stress. Remember, even small amounts of exercise will cause you to reap these benefits!

Dietary supplements

Dietary supplements are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease, but supplementing with known immune boosting agents such as vitamin D, vitamin C, vitamin B12, zinc, selenium, and magnesium, as well as others, can help fill the nutritional gap and be incredibly beneficial.

If diet, exercise, and sleep just aren’t doing enough, then fortifying one’s diet with known immune boosting supplements may help to support a healthy immune system, and even make a difference in the severity of symptoms when illness does hit.

The most common deficiencies affecting health and immune function are vitamin D3, magnesium, and vitamin B12, all of which can easily be corrected with dietary supplements.

We want to prepare you for these unprecedented times

As the world struggles during these unprecedented times, leading experts, scientists, researchers, and doctors are experimenting and conducting clinical trials using a variety of nutritional interventions and protocols that may help to strengthen immune function and response.
